As Peru’s blueberry harvest volumes reached normal levels again with increased exports, the global blueberry market has returned to normal. Growers in China are seeing ideal weather that enhances the flavour of blueberries this year. South Africa’s season, which is coming to an end soon, has seen blueberry exports increase by 7%. More blueberries for North America are anticipated in 2025. Supply is switching from Peru to Mexico and Chile.
The end of 2024 was very busy for the Biofrais shops in the Haute-Savoie and Ain departments, which are currently offering a wide range of seasonal organic fruits and vegetables. “During the festive season, the demand was particularly strong for all citrus fruits, with obviously a higher than usual demand for exotic fruits, also sold in the form of fruit baskets,” explains Jessica Cornely, fruit and vegetable sector manager at Biofrais.
With a desire to offer organic products grown as locally as possible, the lychees and Victoria pineapples come from Reunion Island, the passion fruit from Spain, and the pineapples from the Azores in Portugal. “In addition to these exotic products, we naturally offer a wide range of citrus fruit, including Clemenvilla mandarins, oranges of several varieties (Tarocco, Moro, leaf), and Syracuse lemons, which come directly from a producer in Sicily, as do our clementines, which come directly from a producer in Corsica, even though the end of the season is approaching. As for the red pomelos, they also come from Corsica.”
